Repeal of Clause 1 of the Equality Act 2010
The Home Secretary and Minister for Women, Theresa May, last week announced that the Government will not introduce the "socio-economic" duty, set out in Clause 1 of the Equality Act 2010. That duty stated that relevant authorities,
"must, when making decisions of a strategic nature about how to exercise its functions, have due regard to the desirability of exercising them in a way that is designed to reduce the inequalities of outcome which result from socio-economic disadvantage."
The Government will look to repeal the law sometime in the future.
