Age Discrimination Update
Stuart Brittenden, an employment law specialist at Old Square Chambers, spoke at the Institute of Employment Rights conference on 10 October and he has kindly allowed us to reproduce a recording of his talk, along with powerpoint slides and CPD questions. Stuart gave us a talk on age discrimination and talked specifically about recent cases such as Seldon v Clarkson Wright and Jakes, Woodcock v Cumbria PCTand HM Land Registry v Benson.

The main points covered by Stuart are:
* A discussion of the proportionate means of achieving a legitimate aim * The arguments in the case of Seldon and the guidance given by the Supreme Court following its dismissal of the claim * The case of Woodcock v Cumbria PCT regarding the cost justification defence * The case of HM Land Registry v Benson in which the the EAT ruled that the ET should have accepted the limited resources indicated by the respondent as a legitimate aim while weighing it against its discriminatory impact.
